…The asari can utilize alien DNA in their reproductive processes, making them the potential partner of any species they encounter. But the result is not a hybrid creature, but an asari through-and-through. What initially seems to be a species designed for intergalactic community becomes a kind of consumptive force, slowly but surely perpetuating itself at the cost of another species’ offspring. The racial fear of being bred out of existence escalated to a new level.
Matt Munkittrick - Why Mass Effect is the Most Important Science Fiction Universe of Our Generation

You know, this actually is a really good point I hadn’t consdiered. There’s something very bittersweet, I think, for the life partner of an asari. Turians, humans, etc. not only have to live with the knowledge that their significant other will long outlive them, but that they will be only a blip on the radar in the lives of their children. On top of that, given that their children will always be asari, they will likely gravitate to their asari background over their turian/human/salarian background.

In part, I think, this can explain why the asari are powerful in the Mass Effect universe despite not having the strongest military or the best tech. The asari intermarry with other cultures so frequently that they will be hesitant to bring any war to the asari, because Thessia is the home of their wives and of their children.

TL;DR - The salarians got on the council due to tech superiority; the turians by military superiority; and the asari by cultural superiority. (via acequeenking)

My name is Jack Frost. How do I know that? The Moon told me so. But that was all he ever told me. And that was a long, long time ago.

Anastasia’s Blue Dress Appreciation Post

Was there some sort of special animation for this movie because it has never looked quite like other animation.

It was almost entirely rotoscoped, if that’s what you mean? That means it was drawn on top of live action film, which is how they got the realistic subtleties.

Whoa, that’s so cool. Wow.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is rotoscoping done fantastically right.

Because all you really need to do is find some cheap animation produced by lesser-to-completely-unknown studios to see how horribly disturbing rotoscoping is when the artist cannot animate very well; if the frame rate is too slow? It looks jerky, choppy, and repulsively unnatural. It leaps right into the uncanny valley and sets up house there.

Whatever became of the moment when one first knew about death? There must have been one, a moment, in childhood, when it first occurred to you that you don’t go on forever. It must have been shattering, stamped into one’s memory. And yet I can’t remember it. It never occurred to me at all. We must be born with an intuition of mortality. Before we know the word for it, before we know that there are words, out we come, bloodied and squalling…with the knowledge that for all the points of the compass, there’s only one direction and time is its only measure.

so for my art project we had to fake a death/murder. for mine I did someone who had jumped off a building. when I was laying down while the picture was being taken, 7 people came running up to me asking if I was okay and if I needed an ambulance etc. I’ve been suicidal for a very long time, and the thoughts of jumping off buildings and ending my life have gone through my mind a thousand times. But the fact that people actually stopped and came running over to see if I was alright made me see that people do care, strangers care. so many people looked and walked past, but these 7 people some how took these suicidal feelings away… weird huh? But the moral of this story is that people do care about you, even people who don’t know who you are.

if you don’t reblog this, fuck you

oh my god this is amazing

Reblogging this again because wonderful
